A High Street Stage

London has Trafalgar Square, Glasgow has George Square and Dunfermline has this grass area for community events and performances. A temporary stage is used during events like Outwith Festival but until 2006 the grass was populated with buildings; Dunfermline Cooperative Department store and Unitas Dancing Hall.

With the Unitas Hall, St Margaret’s Hall down the hill and Kinema above on the other side of today’s bus station these three delivered a suitable form of entertainment for everyone.
The man behind the many barbers with his name, David Gray, was also an accomplished accordion player and he tells us of the many places he played:
